As Principal of Pearson Middle School, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our WEB site and encourage you to spend a few moments reading the Panther Press, our school newsletter.  I would also ask you to review the Isabelle M. Pearson Middle School Student-Parent Handbook.  The handbook provides a tremendous amount of information about Pearson Middle School, the staff, its programs, activities, school rules and Board of Education Policies.  As always, if you have any questions, concerns and/or suggestions please feel free to email me at clay.krevolin@ winchesterschools.org or call me at 860-379-7588.

We at Pearson Middle School believe that:

The Middle School Years Are a Critical Time in Adolescent Development and Learning

The faculty, staff and administration at Pearson Middle School, share with the community the commitment to serve the intellectual, emotional, social and physical needs of our students.  During these transitional years, we seek to implement developmental programs that provide an environment that responds to the unique needs of the Middle School child.

In partnership with students of Pearson Middle School, we will work cooperatively to establish an environment that is both interesting and challenging, where an appreciation for acquiring knowledge and a curiosity for the discovery of new ideas will prevail.  We seek to create a school atmosphere that fully develops mutual respect and a sense of pride in our achievements and ourselves.

The middle school years need to be a time of exploration when the development of ideas and skills for learning are more important than the memorization of just facts.  The slow metamorphosis of the sixth grade child to the eighth grade young adult is a crucial process.  During this fantastic journey, teachers must guide students to become independent learners.  The ultimate goal of a successful middle school is to produce motivated students who have the ability to identify what they need to know.  Once students define their problem, they must use acquired knowledge to solve the many issues that they will encounter throughout life.  Students must be able to obtain and utilize information from many sources to build new ideas in a world without boundaries.  Students should leave the middle school motivated while possessing the knowledge needed for continued, independent learning.  As students progress in their education, they need to be able to assemble available information, utilize the latest technology, communicate effectively, develop a healthful life-style and have an appreciation of the strength of diversity.  Finally, students must be to apply acquired knowledge to the many questions and problems that they will encounter throughout life.

As always, tremendous effort will be expended to increase student achievement.  In doing this, available assessment data will be disaggregated to inform curricular decisions, performance targets will be established, the new language arts curriculum is being implemented and a comprehensive school improvement plan has been developed.  The development of Character Education programs will continue to be imperative as we work to assure the best possible learning environment and better prepare Pearson Middle School students for the future.  We will continue to utilize the extensive technology present in the building to purposely support curriculum. Through the Child Study Team and mentoring opportunities, students needing assistance will be identified and required support(s) will be implemented.
