The Winchester Board of Education has established shared values, operating principles and goals, in order to advance instructional excellence, support the Superintendent, enhance student learning and performance, engage the community, update policies, and maintain fiscal responsibility and transparency.

BOARD OF EDUCATION GOALS

Support the Superintendent's goals 

• Supervise and evaluate the Superintendent
• Communicate openly with the Superintendent and observe the chain of command
• Adhere to agreed upon values and norms
• Utilize the system for Board self-evaluation

Encourage and monitor student learning and performance

• Include student representatives in Board meetings to share learning 
• Review district and student data (i.e. iReady, SBAC, NGSS)

Engage the community

• Include students in Board meetings (i.e. student showcase)
• Attend school events (BBQ, convocation, meet & greet, concerts, PTO meetings)
• Continue to develop our relationship with the Gilbert School 
• Strengthen the connection with the Board of Selectmen by personally encouraging their attendance at school events

Complete the process of reviewing and updating policies

• Complete the policy review and transition from CABE policies to Shipman policies

Ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency

• Review monthly summary financial reports of all the funds at monthly BOE meetings
• Review detailed financial reports at monthly Finance Committee meetings
