Our District

Winchester Public Schools have a proud tradition dating back from the first school building, First District School, which was established in 1908. In Winchester, we are "Better Together, Everyone, Everyday." Our families and community join together in the education of our youth, proudly partnering to offer an exemplary educational. Batcheller Early Childhood Center hosts Prekindergarten and Kindergarten through second grade and Pearson School grades three through six. The Gilbert School, Winchester's quasi-public high school, houses seventh through twelfth.

Dear Families and Staff,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are looking forward to embarking on another successful school year. Over the past year, we have increased performance, decreased absenteeism, and improved the overall climate and culture of the buildings. We hope that when you enter the school buildings this year, you will see freshness and warmth. Many building upgrades have been made of the summer to ensure comfort and optimal instructional opportunities.

In the coming days, the Connecticut State Department of Education will release the 2018 SBAC test results. We are anxiously awaiting the public release and will announce the results immediately.

This year, while we will continue with a laser-like focus on student achievement and curriculum development, we also include social-emotional health. Routinely throughout the school year, students, staff, and families will participate in team building experiences, workshops, and listen to speakers regarding growing responsible pre-teens. This effort to improve the social-emotional health of our schools will hopefully infuse care, compassion, and nurture into our learning community.

We look forward to a wonderfully successful school year. As always if you need any assistance, you can contact me at 860-379-0706 or via email at
